A 1oz slug of lead that is .729" in dia is going to kill any deer. I have heard of unreliable kills with buck shot.
I can not tell you which one is better because you gun is going to like something different than mine.
I am shooting Remington reduced recoil loads.

Deer do not use shot-gun shells, they use their antlers!

I personally use Remington 3.5 inch, 00 buck in my Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag.
It reaches way out there and gets the job done.
