Stoeger makes a good, bare bones side-by-side called a Stagecoach (20"). I think it runs around $299 (I’ts been some time since I last looked up the price though). MSRP says $369 but they are usually cheaper in the store.

If you can find one, Stevens and Savage both marketed the same side-by-side a while back. They made them in both 20, and 12 gauge. I’ve had them offered to me anywhere from $200 to $500, but I’d say that $275-350 is a good price.

Othetrwise, I’d go with the Stoeger (STAY- geer) which are made in Russia, I believe, or one of the various brands of Turkish (all made by Huglu) shotguns around.

    None…….

    Get a 12 gauge pump shotgun….

Specifically the Mossberg 500 persuader shotgun…. They have 6 and 8 shot models — why settle for 2 shots?……

A shotgun is the perfect home defense weapon. However, for the price (if it is legal where you live, if in the US it is) dump the double barrel for a pump action shotgun. Granted, a shotgun does a great deal of damage with less chances of harming innocent bystanders. What if you miss and there are more than one or two people that are of threat to you, your family or your home? Again, go for a pump action shotgun designed for home protection. It will hold eight shells generally, and you can be assured, if you are familiar with using the weapon, that you will have taken good measure to defend your home, family and life. If legal, spend the same money on a pump action. Remington, Winchester, Mossburg, etc. all make quality pump action shotguns that won’t break the bank. I doubt anyone would have anything negative to say about the shotguns, the quality or price made by these companies.

None. A shotgun is inappropriate for home defense. Get a .357 revolver with a 4" barrel. If you HAD to stick with a double barrel (I am assuming your question is a joke, by the way) you should saw the barrel down to the legal minimum of 16".

I’ve seen mostly good advice, except from the fellow who advocated sawing off the barrels to 16". The minimum length is 18".
