    You’d have to know more about the shotgun itself, i.e., its gauge, where he used it & when and so on. For instance, for his hunting expeditions in the US he carried Winchesters. An 1887 Winchester shotgun would look something like this:

    But in his African expedition of 1908, he took some English firearms as well; read "African Game Trails" for more information.

    Additionally, in his expedition to the Amazon, his firearms were varied. Also, as a side note, read about Roosevelt’s eyewitness account of watching pirahnas eat a cow down to the bones. The event was actually stage-managed by the locals, but it’s impressive nonetheless.
