Best? —- Whats your budget? — If your a regular working kind of guy with a working mans kind of budget then consider the Remington 870 or the Mossberg 500……
Remington 870 Express…..
http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/shotguns/model_870/model_870_express.asp
Of course if you get the 870 combo you get 2 barrels…. One for deer and a field barrel for other critters / ducks/ birds/ etc, etc….

I happen to like the Mossberg 500 shotguns better…. NOT because they are better…. I prefer there defense shotguns before the Remington’s but Remington does make a fine shotgun for hunting…. Its a bit of a Ford verses Chevy argument when it come to there hunting shotguns……….

Look this combo model over — Nice!

Mossberg 500 at chuckhawks……

YES yes yes — Browning, Beretta, CZ, Ruger and others make fine shotguns but those are more for people with Champagne taste….

Can’t go wrong with a Remington 870

If you are going to use it exclusively for shooting slugs, I’d look real hard at the Savage bolt action slugster.
If you want something more versatile, get a Remington 870 combo with a smooth barrel and a rifled slug barrel, and have at it.
