What is the best over-under shotgun?

January 4th, 2010 by eranio

I have currently been using my step-fathers Ruger Red Label 26" barrely 12 gauge, but I’m wondering what other people prefer. I am going to Cabela’s tommorrow to check some guns out. I would like to get my own, and right now I think I will be getting another Ruger but will take awhile before I can afford it into my budget. If you have any other suggestions of guns to check out, that would be great!

The Ruger is a great choice and will last for your lifetime, probably your children’s as well. Personally, I am a Browning fan, but in the Ruger price-range, there are none better.

I’ve only been shooting shot guns for a couple years,I am currently shooting with a older model Franchi its OK. I’ve tried a few newer Browning’s,there quite good but the next shotgun I get will more than likely be a Mirokou for the finish alone is tops but also the ergonomics is also excellent.Better start saving though.(I’m mainly talking clay target shooting here).

The ruger is very tough and extremley strong action. It has even been used for conversions to double barrelled elephant rifles such as the 500 nitro express.

For your question ‘which is the best’, the best is one that has been custom made for you.If you have many thousands of dollars to afford it, a custom fitted shotgun will handle better than most anything else.

The Ruger Red Labels are fine firearms..I have two, one in 12 and one in 28. I also have a Franchi Veloce in 28 ga, and two Winchester 101′s, both in 12 ga. I have had two Berettas, and they are very well made, but Italian made guns tend to have less drop at the heel than I need. I have three Browning "Superposed" in 12 and 20′s, and they fit nicely…If you research, you can find many O/U’s used, but still in excellent condition….Overall, for the money, the Ruger Red Label is an excellent shotgun, and you will never regret buying it……..Good shooting….

For the money the Ruger Red Labels are great shotguns, but I sure would like a Browning Citori.

If you have a Dick’s Sporting Goods nearby, they had an over & under on sale in this area recently and I can’t remember the brand. It came with both 12 ga.-28" and 20 ga.-26" barrel sets and if I had wanted something like that, I’d have gotten it. It was a brand I had heard of, but I just can’t pull it out of memory right now. Basically, it was $450 for 2 guns.
