what is the type of ammo to use in a shotgun to blow a big hole in something like you see in the movies? Is it slugs with the 9 steel buckshot pellets?

For the most part, anything out of a shotgun at close range will tear some sh@t up. It just depends what you’re trying to shoot. If you wasn’t to blow holes through plywood, buckshot for sure. If you want to bust up some cinder blocks or shoot through old appliances, use a slug. If you want to do a lot of damage to a body, I wouldrecommendd a frangible or a multi defense buckshot which is a slug with buckshot behind it.

Buck shot alone or the combo slug and buckshot round. At point blank or 10ft birdshot will blow a big hole in a plywood sheet or drywall.

0-0 buck shot is the thing to shoot to blow some holes in stuff. slugs will make some holes but not real big

Let me put it this way….. at five feet anything other then a slug is going to tear a hole no more then 2 inches across in the target. Buckshot at five to twenty yards can be one ragged hole with a few others around the edge or 8-41 individual ones depending on the load used.
Basically NOTHING that isn’t explosive will make a 2 foot hole at ten feet like hollywood loves to pretend.
typical rule of thumb with a shot gun is you get a spread of about one inch for every yard fo distance. Even a straight cylinder bore choke doesn’t normally spread over about three feet at 25yd range.
