What is the best shotgun for deer hunting?
I am looking for a really good shotgun for hunting deer (shooting slugs). I know I want a brand new one and a new model as well. I will spend up to about 00 but prefer to spend about 0-800. I also want something that I can also use for turkey hunting (something that comes with different barrels or chokes). I was looking online (winchester, mossberg & Remiington) but there are so many different models on the websites I dont know which is the right one? Any help would be appreciated. Please include specific model #’s or links so I can find it.
for everyone that says mossberg 500 how about this one – do you think it is better than the 500??

I would get a Rem 870 with a rifled barrel and a separate smooth bore barrel that has removable choke tubes. You can get a turkey choke tube for it and be all set.

I like the Mossberg 500 for it’s versatility and it’s affordability, at under $250 for it’s field model with all the chokes you need, plus the availability and affordability of different length barrels and styles(rifled, smoothbore, and lots of length options), it would be my choice for a repeating all round hunting gun, from squirrels to deer, from rabbits to geese, it’s perfect for everything, but the range if a but short though, even with the rifled barrel, it’s only 200 yards, good for brush and short field hunting.

Everyone has an opinion, but for me it is the Ithaca Deerslayer II. Ithaca is out of business, but you can still get them New In Box through places such as Gunbroker.com. With a scope, this will cost about $800. Although a shotgun, the Ithaca is not a converted shotgun. It is really a rifle. You should never shoot pellets through it. It was designed from the getgo as a slug-only gun, with the rifled barrel being one piece with the receiver. It was made specifically to kill deer in those areas where you need to use a shotgun. It is a botom eject gun, so it can be used right or left handed. It is a dream gun for shooting wild hogs.

I have a mossberg 500 C 20 ga. and it works good, I also have a friend who has the 500 in 12 ga. and he likes his. Plus you can get it as a deer field combo and that comes with a smooth and rifled barrel, for deer hunting i use the rifled barrel and Remington copper solid sabots.

Remington 870 is an all around keep-working-no-matter-the-conditions shotgun. Affordable, VERY dependable, and easy to change barrels.

mossberg 500,535, or 835. They come in 2 barrel combos one being turkey and one a rifled deer barrel. They are great guns and come in some nice cammo patterns. $1000 is pretty crazy to spend on a shotgun. $1000 aint going to shoot any better than a 300-500$ gun.I would go with the mossberg 835 or 535 because they are chambered to also shoot 3-1/2 inch shells. This is nice for turkey and if you want to waterfowl hunt. Id just get a combo. The winchester is way over priced. and the Remington isnt bad but i feel their quality isnt as good as it used to be. I think Reimingtons are over rated. The Benneli Nova isnt a bad looking gun either but not sure if it comes in a combo. Hard to beat the mossbergs though
