The mossburg 535 is a nice gun for the money ( about $325). Comes with a turkey ( 22inch) and a waterfowl ( 28 inch) barrels fiber optic sights, and mine even came with a tru-glo red dot. Shoots up to 3 1/2 inchers, although i found out that the 3 inch loads, which are not much lighter at all ( only 1/8 ounce shot) shoot much tighter patterns. I use it for turkey and coyotes at night. For the money, I don’t think you can find a better pump.

Yup. The Mossberg 500 will accept 3 1/2" heavy loads with a full ‘turkey choke’. I used to have one but I traded it for a Benelli. The pump was a bit too noisy for me-rattled like a screw was missing but wasn’t. Benelli was much smoother and quieter.

METROPOL is correct, my mistake. The 500 takes only 3", and the 535 takes 3 1/2. Simple mistake…I read so many 500 references, my fingers went faster than my brain. Sorry. My bad.

Nova is a great, cheap gun also.

The Mossberg 500 does not accept 3 1/2 inch loads… Just 3 inch…. If you want a shotgun that shoots 3 1/2 inch surely consider the Mossberg 535….. Those take 3 1/2 inch loads…….

This model is about $400 or less…..

Another good choice if you don’t mind regular wood or synthetic is the Remington 870 Express Super Mag…..

    Or….

These Remington’s are around the $400 range also…..

Your going to get a lot of opinions here…. I like Mossberg shotguns a lot but others will tell you to get the Remington…. Go on down to the store and hold both of them… Buy the one that "feels" right in your hands….

I like the Mossberg 835 Ulti-mag is under $400 and I have almost always retrieved any bird that I have shot with it.

    Good luck!!!!
