What is the best shotgun?

February 24th, 2010 by eranio

I only know a little about shotguns. I want to know what the best shotgun is for deer and turkey hunting and trap shooting, but i also want a shot gun that i can shoot skeet, duck, geese, quail, pheasant, and raccoon. What shot gun would be the best for that, obviously pump action, but what gage? I want to know what gage. and if their is also a good brand.

Also i want a long barrel. Is their any shot gun that can do all of that or at least most of it, and if it cant do it all please tell me what it can do. I know i definitely need it to be able to kill deer and turkey

I would get the Remington 870 combo. It comes with two barrels. A slug barrel for deer and an all purpose barrel with screw in choke tube. You screw in the appropriate tube for the game you are hunting. With this single gun you can hunt deer, turkey, squirrel, duck, geese, rabbit, pheasant, dove, coon, and you can also shoot skeet.

A 12 gauge would be your best bet for all those. A Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 come to mind. I got a new 870 XCS Waterfowl 3 1/2" Mag and love it. They make more wallet friendly 870′s that would fit your needs just as well.

    Nice dog.

I agree. You’ll want either a Mossberg 500 or a Remington 870, probably in 12 gauge. Head to your local gun store and check out a fe different models of each.

The best of the pump actions you’ll ever find are the Ithaca Featherlight series.

Light, well balanced, and aesthetically pleasing (purdy… *drools*)

Although they are expensive, they are worth every penny… but then again, you can find used ones for $300-$400… in immaculate condition that is.

30” vent rib will serve every one of your needs. 12/16/20 gauge will do it all…

Remington 12 gauge 870 express is my choice for my "DO ALL" shotgun. Mines a year or so old.The durable black matte finish kinda makes it worry free when out in the woods and walking through thick brush. The removable choke option allows for a wider variety of hunting. Mine will accept a 3 inch shell, so goose hunting as well as duck hunting is not out of the question.
The action is just as smooth as my wingmaster and in my opinion the gun is just as nice. In a matter of seconds you can remove the shotgun barrel and replace it with the deer slug barrel for the deer season. You’ll have two choices for slug barrels, rifled and non-rifled. The rifled is nice ( if you can pick one up used their not too expensive) the smooth bore is not bad either, cheaper than the rifled barrel. Either one will kill deer. Thats my opinion…MANY other brands to choose from on the market. My experience tells me to stay with what works the best…REMINGTON..
    GOOD LUCK!

When you buy a Remington 870 you get quality, reliability, durability, and versatility. When you buy a mossberg you get to say to your-self over and over I should have got a Remington,I should have got a Remington,I should have got a Remington!
