Any Brand single shot Shotgun will harvest you a Deer.* There is no best Brand.* Harrington & Richardson, New England Firearms, or Rossi.*

NEF/HR1871 Pardner. This was my first shotgun and only costs around $100 new. It is finely crafted and shoots wonderfully. It is a smoothbore so you will either need to use buckshot or a rifled slug. There is also a gun NEF sells called a Slug Hunter if you want a rifled shotgun. If you miss the first shot the deer is usually gone before you can shoot at it again anyways ( at least the way I see it ).

Those H&R 1871 are nice guns. Light, durable, affordable. I personally love the side-lever eject. That and a slug’ll getcha a deer, no problem.

I 2nd the H&R 1871. But I would much rather have a used punp action shot gun.

Personally I wouldn’t get a single shot anything to go deer hunting. If you miss with the first shot you have to reload. If you have your mind set on using a shotgun you should get a pump shotgun or an automatic shotgun. I prefer a rifle (30.06 or .270).
