What is the legal barrel length for a sawed off shotgun?

A friend of mine has a sawed off shotgun. It looks pretty short, whats the shortest length the barrel can be LEGALLY? We live in wisconsin.

    Federal law says it must be at least 18 inches. I’m not sure if Wisconsin has any state restrictions.

    Ask this in the Hunting category. One of the gun guys over there should know.
