Saiga 12. get it locked magazines. you won’t need the detachable magazine anyways. If you need more than 10 shells in home defense either your aim sucks or you really hate your attacker and want him blasted to a bloody pulp.

CA legal with locked magazine. detachable magazine semi’s are "evil" and therefore banned.

I believe the saiga is also offered in 20 gauge and .410 calibers.

ever reliable/simple AK action, gas operated semiautomatic, detectable magazine (not in CA) 4, 7, 10 rds magazine capacities, pistol grip, $700 I think polymer-black is the only choice.

regular double barrel with buck shot smith and weston shells

Remington 1100 or 11-87 semi auto. Or an 870 Express in 12 gauge. Nothing beats the action and reliability of 870.

I like the Auto-5 for hunting, but prefer the Remington 870 for HD, even if it is not semi-auto.

In my opinion I would`nt use a semi-auto shotgun for self defense. They seem to have trouble when you mix different shell lengths together. I like to have birdshot first then buckshot after. You could use the auto with all buckshot, but under stress it`s actually possible to miss your target, because the pattern is a lot tighter. I would go with a pump gun of your choice. They`re all pretty decent.

BENELLI or BENELLI or maybe a BENELLI.

I like the 1100-but, I would not choose a long gun for home defense. I know its bigger, more powerful and carries a much larger load. But its tough to manipulate a long gun in tight spaces-like inside a home.
A pistol would be the # 1 choice.

I’m going to say an Ithaca 51.

Or… if you’re real manly, get yourself an Ithaca Roadblocker… 10ga. goodness.

Don’t know how Kali feels about it, but I’ve recently purchased a Benelli M4 with an aftermarket 7 round tube, making it a 7+1 shotgun. Since typical home defense ranges is 10 feet or less, I have it stoked up with BB in steel shot. Why steel? Because you get more pellets (about 90 .170 pellets), an at 10 feet the energy loss between steel or lead is nominal. Someone suggested birdshot. I’ve been shot with #6 high brass at 30 feet, and while it hurts like hell, its not a man stopper. BB up close and personal either amputates limbs or delivers a lethal crush injury when shooting to center of mass. I like a semi-auto in good quality, and agree that no-one wants to buy a jam-o-matic. If the Benelli goes down, I have an old High Standard 5+1 riot gun (pump action) Its a Model K20-6.
