What kind of damage can a shotgun with a slug do at 10 ft?

Is there any firearm that would do more damage at 10 feet than an 8 gauge shotgun with a slug? How would you compare this with a 50 caliber barrett sniper rifle at that distance? My initial thoughts would assume that the bullet from the rifle would penetrate the object, and the shotgun slug would stop once it hit the target, but would blow it up on contact.

what the hell you think? an 8 gauge shotgun from 10feet is going to do a lot of fucking damage.

Might as well be asking
What would do more damage, laying your head across a stump of a tree, and letting someone drop a 200 lb cement block on your head from 50 feet, or letting someone take an axe to your neck. They are both going to do different kinds of damage, and they’ll both obviously kill you.

50 cal rifle at 10 ft would cut you in half.
the bullet doesnt even need to hit you… if it comes within 6 inches of you it will tear a chunk out of you…
also… some 50 cal bullets flatten upon contact so the entrance hole will be bullet sized and the exit hole will be devistating…

I don’t know exactly. Now why don’t you stand back for a sec and let me find out for you. Not sure you’d like the answer though as it involves your head exploding. Should be fun for one of us though. FYI: A browning Heavy Barrel .50 cal machine gun is capable of engaging targets out to 6,767M or 4.2 miles. It is quite capable of destroying those targets at that range. Rule of thumb:If you can see it you can hit it.

This is the deal–it all comes down to projectile weight, velocity and composition. Its physics. An 8-gauge shotgun slug will absolutely blow right through a human body at ten feet. So will a twelve gauge. A .50 cal will definitely keep on trucking! This can all be de-mystified by learning how ballistics work and a little research. My quick thoughts: The rounds we use in our Barretts actually explode on contact and are very fun. Shotguns are way cool but unpractical for much beyond breaching. Fifties will kill everything living graveyard dead from point blank to 2000 meters.
