What kind of shotgun should I use for trap shooting?
I want to start trap shooting competitively and was wandering what kind of shotgun I should use. I wasn’t sure if over and under or semi auto mattered. I can spend up to 00. Any additional information (reviews, websites, and sources) would be great.

for trap shooting, you need anything but a pump- and by shooting competitively, using a pump will put you a few seconds behind when you have to shoot doubles in a shoot off or at the last part of a comp. i suggest either a 20 ga, 16 ga, or a 12 ga- either a semi-auto, side-by-side or a over/under. those 3 action types will not slow you down and when shooting singles, your supposed to have only one shell loaded anyways. and your luck to have that much to spend- you could get a very nice over/under (o/u) with that.
i shoot competitively and i use a 20 ga semi-auto and my boyfriend uses a 16 ga o/u. both guns have worked perfectly for the both of us. my boyfriend has used his gun for trap shooting for about 5 years and he’s won 2nd place at state this past year and 1st in region for 4 years and i’ve gotten really far with mine too.
also, you’ll want to use a improved cylinder choke and you’ll need to use a trap load for your shells.
later on tonight, i’ll put up some websites of guns you can look at.
also, i have a question for ya (:
how long have you been shooting trap or are you just starting? if you are just starting, i’ll be glad to help ya

You can use whatever you like best a over & under, Pump, semi-auto.* I prefer Ithaca over & under’s.* I have the Field, Skeet, and Trap Grades in it.* To learn about Trap Shooting just type in trap shooting in the web search area.* Everything is there that you need to know.*

For trap i would recomend and autoloading shotgun for quick follow up shots and the faster reloas saves time. Check out the browning silver hunter at http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/family.asp?webflag_=020B&catalog_=B These shotguns run in the $900 price range. I own the silver hunter and it hasnt failed me yet.
