Do not use a choke for slugs. Chokes are only for control of the shot pattern. Otherwise, it depends on the effective range you want the best pattern of shot. Full Choke will give you max range for Ducks and modified or improved will give you shorter range for Quail and Phesants. Also, a shorter barrel, (28") will pattern at a shorter range than a long barrel, (32").

You want the choke with the least constriction for best accuracy. Improved Cylinder is what I usually use.
You can also get a rifled choke tube for even better accuracy, if desired.

there are lots of different chokes for different yards modified is the choke for middle ranges

Question: Is it safe to shoot a slug in a shotgun that has a screw-in choke?
Answer: The answer depends on the choke tube that’s screwed into the barrel. You can get rifled choke tubes designed to spin the slug (to be used with sabot slugs), or you can just use a cylinder or improved cylinder tube (for rifled slugs).
It’s perfectly safe to do with a shotgun that’s in good repair, with proper ammo for that gun’s chamber length. I wouldn’t want to shoot many slugs through a tighter choke, but some modified chokes will do okay with slugs.
The tighter you go, the more pressure there is on the barrel and action, and the more stress is placed on the muzzle, which is thinner than the rest of the barrel anyhow… and this is especially true of newer guns, since their muzzles are threaded for choke tubes (the threading process removes metal from the barrel).
But with the right choke (rifled, cylinder, improved cylinder, or possibly modified) screwed or built into the gun, no problem.

The IM choke is a bit tight for slugs. When a slug goes through a choked barrel it has to squeeze down to pass through the constriction. Accuracy suffers and felt recoil is greater. Some people belive that it can even be dangerous fire a slug down a full choked tube but I’ve yet to see a barrel damaged in this way. As Cholsin stated above the IC choke is usually the most accurate although my bud had a Mossberg that shot slugs best with his modified tube screwed in.

you will need to ask a expert because differnt barrles need diferent chokes.. for instince i needed a chuck that sticks out of the barrle wile others would be inside it so i went to bass pro shops and they told dont for het vote me as best anser
