What type of shotgun shell do you recommend for home defense?

   live with family members? bean bag

   live by yourself? buck will do just find

   OK you clowns who think a bean bag would be a poor choice.

   why would you risk penetration with a slug and scatter with buck when you have family members in the house?

   one of the most important things taught in the military and police force is know what is beyond your target.

   for the safety and well being of your wife and children, a bean bag round would be the best option.

   any other round in a family environment limits your options in retaliating to a perp and ensures you can safely engage the bugler with minimal risk to your family

   What’s up with the first round being a blank, just to scare the transgressor back to a rational state of mind? The second shot can be live, just let them know as much. Remember, accidental-discharge of firearms kills many people, every year.

   Buckshot is deadly at close range, you could probably get away with 00 or 0, and it will do the job just fine.

   Most of the time though, a simple racking will clear anyone out of your home.

   any kind of buckshot should work, the people who suggested non lethal things dont know shit, nonlethal stuff falls under exotic ammunition which also isnt as reliable, i wouldnt trust my life on any of that, no fletchets, no beanbags, no dragons breath, only thing that ammo is good for is screwing around, also at the person who said use a blank first, do you have any idea of how loud it would be to fire a shotgun in a house, you dont want your ears possibly really hurting to get in the way of your second shot if the blank doesnt scare him or what if your gun jams or your firing pin breaks and you dont get the second shot

   also @WRG in general different types of shot wont spread more or less than other kinds
