What would you suggest a Remington 870 pump shotgun or Winchester Speed Pump Shotgun, both 12 gauge?

I’ve always been a fan of the 870, and I’m sure there is a reason the USMC still uses it.

Whichever one you like the best.* Look at the Mossberg Brands before deciding.* They are reasonably priced and a dependable, quality, smooth action, rugged, well made shotgun.*

I have owned both and would get the Winchester based on price
The only thing the Remington has over the Winchester is after market add ons

The loyalty that most have towards the 870 is based on the true old 870
The reputation has carried over to the cheap knockoff 870 Express that Remington is passing off these days

The Remington is not the USMC issued shotgun
It is the Benelli which replaced the Mossberg
So I guess that negates any reason you had for buying one
I don’t think the Remington was ever standard issue

there still is the 870 mdl in addition to the express mdl but much more money- finer fit and finish

The Winchester is the superior (in terms of quality) shotgun, it has a smoother action and is a better (lighter) handling gun

Neither shotgun is a bad choice. I prefer the Remington because I have 5 for different shooting aplications.

Also the remington, due to its poularity, will hold its value better. The Winchester used to be made in North Haven CT, a city about 20 min car ride from me, but is no longer a US made gun.

I am not saying its a bad gun, I just prefer the Remington.

Also I dont think the Winchester is a superior weapon, nor do I ever remember the 870 being used by the USMC.
