Whats a good auto loading shotgun for under 400$?

January 10th, 2010 by eranio

It looks to be like I’m in the market for a 20ga semi auto shotgun. Anyone tried a charels daly? How about mossberg? Does anyone make a good semiauto that cheap?
I’ve got an 870supermag marine and a Benelli Nova Pump in 20ga (very unique, had to have it, but I found It sucks (awful barrel alignment, the rib is coming off, the stock recoil pad plastic snapped off). I like the light weight of a 20ga and soft recoil. I recently shot a Remington 20ga and thought it was much more fun than my 2 current shotguns.

Unfortunately in the shooting world, you rarelyl run accross a combination of good AND cheap unless you find a GREAT used deal. In the case you’re referring to, you’re not going to find that. You’re going to get good OR cheap.

Charles Daly is rated about 50/50 on commentary by purchasers. By comparison, mossberg and remington both have about 95% approval by purchasers.

But the bottom line: for the price you’re looking at, you’ll be able to get a decent entry model 20 gauge PUMP action shotgun, but not an auto loader unless you’re getting a really good used shotgun deal. I know that answer isn’t likely to feel great, but it’s a sucktacular reality of inflation.

remington makes an 1100 model that i had for shooting trap and it is a good shooting gun.. if u want a good 12 ga automatic get either a browning or a beretta and if u just want the best get you a 12 ga benelli pump..hope this helped

Have heard a few bad things about some dalys* not all but look at rem1187 or mossberg.

#1 answer is very expensive. Get a new/used Rem1100 or 1187 top choice followed by mossberg.

*Now for 4500.00 I have seen some nice Charles Daly side by sides……but not for 400.00

There are none. Most autoloading shotguns that are of reasonable quality will run nearly double that. No matter the gauge. Even most good shotguns cost more than $400. For that price you’d be able to get a basic pump.

I do not have personal experience with charles daily but from what I have heard it is to be avoided. There are a fair share of semi-auto shotguns that have feeding issues.
