You really cant go wrong with a 870. You will probably want a shorter barrel for defense and a longer one for hunting.

Wingmaster 870 12 gauge. Buy an 18" "police" barrel to use for home defense.

get one you feel comfterble with theres no dif except i would get a 870 magnum express just for the 3” 1/2 inch shells and get a rifled barrel for deer and field barrel for the rest its not the gun that is made to take down certain animals its the barrel of the gun and the type of shell you use the gun is for your choozing of style and workability to use

870 Express Super Magnum. Mag-tube extension, 18 and a half inch home defense barrel, 26 inch Rem-choke barrel as well. It will do it all.

I have a 12 gauge 870 Wingmaster. The Express models are the same gun without the polished blue finish. Mine came with a 20 inch smoothbore barrel with rifle sights and a 26 inch vent rib barrel with a bead sight. This combo will do just about anything that can be done with a shotgun.
