Who Makes The Better Waterfowl Gun-Benelli Or Beretta?
I have a Remington 870 that I love and use for trap and upland hunting. I want to start waterfowl hunting this upcoming season and am interested in an autoloader. I don’t "need" a new gun, but you know how it goes. I "want" one.
The two guns I see used a lot are Benelli’s and Beretta’s. In your opinion, who makes the better waterfowl gun? Which models have features that you like? Which ones are better at withstanding the abuse and harsh waterfowl conditions? How do these two compare to Remington autoloaders?
I know these are all good guns but I’d like to hear from people with experience with them. I’ve always been a Remington guy but I wouldn’t mind owning a Benelli.
Thanks for any comments.

I have an 870 that I used for years as my duck hunting gun. It is a good durable and less expensive gun so abusing it a little doesn’t bother one so much.
But like you, I "wanted" a new gun. Yes, I know how it goes. The wife doesn’t, but that’s another post. I went with the Benelli Super Black Eagle. I like the feel in my hands, the smooth recoil, and easy take down for cleaning. I have used & abused it for the last 3 seasons and never have had a problem. One time chasing down a wounded bird in waist deep water, I stepped off into a hole of real soft mud and started sinking quick. I twisted back behind me and buried the butt of the Benelli in the firmer mudd behind me and used it as a cruch to pull myself out of the hole. I completely submerged the gun but didnt get mud in the action or barrel. I just wiped it off and used it the rest of the day. Took it home, broke it down, cleaned and oiled everything and it is as good as new. That was 2 season’s ago.
I dont know much about the Beretta. Just have never used one. I am sure they are good guns also.

I have all ways shot an 870. I have a short one for bear protection and a long one for birds. I have only shot semi auto gun a few times, and I don’t like how they jump so much. I think if you are used to a pump, that is a better gun all around.Personally, if you want a new gun, I definitely understand that. But I don’t think you will find any practical benefit to buying a different shotgun. The 870 is the backbone of the north, along with the 30.06. Buy a new Leopold for your rifle instead.

i have one of each but the Benelli SBE comes out of the safe first. I love the way it shoots and handles. Heavy or light loads i use it for Doves thru turkeys. I use an O/U 20 gauge for upland birds but i wouldnt hesitate to take my Benelli anywhere and hunt anything. The Beretta is a good gun too but limited by the 3" max THey are offering a 3.5 in the Xtrema and i have shot it but it feels cumbersome and fat in my hands and i have big hands and long arms. If the money is not an issue get the SBEII you will love it I won mine at a DU banquet in 1999 and it has never ever jammed one time

The Bereta AL391 and Extrema2 are the most used shotguns by guides that offer high volume shoots, such as the Dove hunting in Argentina and Mexico also the waterfowl hunts in Mexico and Bolivia. I have shot both and prefer the Beretta.
