Who would be issued the Benelli M4 (12 gauge shotgun) in the military?

January 15th, 2010 by eranio

I’ve heard that the USMC has adopted the Benelli M4 semi-auto shotgun and it is now being phased into the Army, Navy, and Air Force.

My question is who is usually issued the shot-gun? And is that the only weapon they carry, or is it a secondary weapon?
this is obviously the US military I’m talking about.

Mostly security guards but there are some applications for MOUT operations. Good luck to you

It’s a secondary weapon that is its issued depending on the situation.

In the civilian world it’s called the M4. Once in the Marine Corps, it’s the M1014. There are differences in the design.

It’s a primary firearm. Generally, you’re only going to see security forces using it (that’s where I was trained to use it). It’s fun to shoot. ^_^

I am in the Army, and when I was in Iraq I had a Rem. 870 to breach doors and also to use non-leathal rounds( used it in a riot in Sadr City).

Usually, someone who is familiar with ballistic breaching or is Master Breach qualified.
