The top folding stocks are junk.. flimsy junk.

To dramatically reduce recoil Knoxx makes the most advanced stocks.

negative the only way to reduce felt recoil is to use a weaker load or a heavier stock.. thats it

Nope. Your best bet is a pad much like a football player uses that inserts under your shirt on your shoulder. That is the cheapest way. Another harder way is to buy a recoil reducing heavier stock with a special spring system like here

http://www.knoxxrecoilsolutions.com/kSTORE/prodSelection.php

that way is very expensive, so you could also get a muzzle break

http://www.tacticalshotgunaccessories.com/ati/muzzlebreak.htm

I personally use an 870 express in 12 gauge. Its cheap and reliable with a short action. Get that, and any thing you want. I use nothing, but If you shoot a lot it might be a good idea to try something like a muzzle break, pad, or stock. Happy hunting!

tactical shotgun come on? you have a fore grip (pistol grip) use that as an advantage, if it dont have a pistol grip on it, then just man up and feel the power of the gun, it feels great any way besides the recoil on any gun feels great, why reduce recoil.

ahhhh i know what it is, your recoil shy arnt you?

Recoil is reduced by having a heavier gun

Recoil is controlled by properly and firmly placing a solid buttstock properly in your shoulder.

Every 'top folding' and all but the AR-15 style 'side folding' or 'collapsing' buttstocks I have seen for shotguns have made recoil worse due to them being rather flimsy.

Unless you are jumping out of a plane, get a fixed buttstock

No. The stock is lighter than the factory stock so it would probably make recoil worse. Get yourself a slip on recoil pad. Pachmyre and Limbsavers are both good. I have a limbsaver on my Rem 7mm Mag and Rem 870 12ga.

Yes they will

All the top folders I have ever seen have a pistol grip
That alone does much to reduce the felt recoil

I shot slugs out of a stock 18.5 inch Moseberg, Winchester 1300, Norinco 1897, Savage 67A and a Remington 870 in one shooting session just to see which ones handled the recoil better

The Remington had a pistol gripped full stock and the difference was not only noticeable but dramatic
When I put the ATI pistol gripped full stock on the Mossberg and the original stock back on the Remington the difference was the same

It only takes a little bit of common sense to figure out why
With three points of contact the recoil will be spread out and the felt recoil will be diminished

If you are recoil sensitive, just buy the gun you like, and send the barrel out to any number of porting companies like magna port, and have it ported, and have it back bored, and the forcing cone elongated. This is the only way to truly reduce the recoil of a shotgun without adding weight.

I have seen stocks that look like AR stocks that actually have a spring inside them and collapse under fire to reduce the recoil, but it does not fold.

I used to shoot competitive trap and skeet, and my Over Under Browning would kick a bit. Its not much with trap loads, but after 10 rounds of shooting(250 shots), it wore you out. I had mine done, ant the whole thing cost about 200 dollars 15 years ago. It is a whole different gun now. It was not uncommon to shoot 6 rounds(150 shots) at the 16 yard line, the same at the handicap line and six rounds of doubles(300 shots) for a total of 600 in one registered shoot. My browning does not beat me up at all.

Buy what you like, then get the work done to your liking.

I hope this helps.

A semi auto shot gun will reduce recoil by 50%. I love mine. I have a Winchester SX3 and it's the best shotgun I own. It's a very light weight gun and it still has hardly any recoil.
You could try putting a limpsaver pad on it, that will help a lot. You can aslo get lighter loads to reduce recoil. or try wearing a shoulder pad.
Unless you are shooting a 3 inch magnum or a 10 gauge the recoil isn't too bad to begin with. but you get into some of those magnum loads and they can definatly smack you!
