Will my Remington 870 shoot a rifled slug with a Improved Cylinder Choke?

December 10th, 2009 by eranio

I have a Remington 870 Express shotgun, and I was just wondering if the stock smooth bore barrel would with a Improved Cylinder choke tube would fire rifled slugs. Besides the Improved Cylinder choke, I also have the stock Modified choke tube.

Use your improved cylinder choke and standard rifled slugs. Slugs that use sabots require your barrel to be rifled; don’t use them. The rifled slugs will cause the slug to spin as it leaves a smoothbore barrel. You may have to try several brands of slugs to see which works best with your gun. You should get accuracy up to 100 yards.
Good choice on your shotgun, by the way.

yes, the IC choke is fine for rifled slugs

however, don’t waste your time on sabot slugs, they require a fully rifled barrel or at least a rifled choke.
